Hi everyone,

Awesome site - just found it and playing first few games. Thought it might be fun to make a map.

So I made a FFVII map would you want to play it?
If there's sufficient interest I'll draft it and submit it to the foundry.

@ zimmah: It wouldn't be taken from the game. I'td be an adaption. Like taking the original RISK map and making the standard one used on this site?

Simple, it is not that map. It is different in many ways so CR is not the issue. Over the course of the site, CR has cropped its ugly head up now and again, most notably with Classic, but also for Middle Earth and Westeros (most recent). The first 2 got changed radically to be allowed, the third has not been able to get permission so it is on vacation till the issue can be resolved.

As for your idea about FF7 map, nice idea but you would need to change so much as it would not be recognizable as FF7. Never played the games so do not know the appeal but do know it is regarded as one of the best games ever so if it comes to the PSN in HD I might grab a copy.

Why don't you run up a quick draft and post it?

You could make it "in the style of" FF7, but not using any art work, and or images from it. I am sure you can come up with something.

Ok, I've drawn an idea for a map and have scanned it to my comp. I can't figure out how to upload it to the forum though - is there an upload button? I don't know how to upload it somewhere else then link to it using the image tool.

Use something like photobucket.com to host an image, and then use bbcode image tags to display it if you have something scanned.

Have done what you said. Map is here:

It is based on an event in FFVII where a huge WEAPON attacks the city of Midgar. In the game the Shinra company assembles a massive cannon powered by the city's six remaining reactors. The cannon is used to defeat the creature.

just a concept drawing to see if it could be developed/has potential. I put area bonuses on the map idea but number of territories as well? Er, top of my head equal numbers on the WEAPON and on the City, 30 apiece?. I'll need to redraw it to accommodate these but obviously it can be scaled down if too big:

30 on different parts of Weapon.
5 on Cannon
3 on each reactor so 21
4 for Shinra HQ (central city)
1 on Highwind - not part of area bonuses.
2 killer neutral spots separate each reactor from every other reactor (not on map)

So I had the idea of a player 'occupying' the reactor zones and the company HQ in the centre insodoing 'activating' the cannon thereby either winning the game or gaining access to WEAPON's player spots.

Other zones are the raised 'plates' between the reactors and the HQ into which barriers can be incorporated. The cannon itself can also be a zone and possibly the area around the city. Possibly one way attack from the 'Highwind' a large airship overhead.

First thoughts?

Do you know how to use photoshop or gimp? It's always easier to give feedback on something computer made. I'm often hesitant to criticize something hand made because I don't want to bring the person who made it down.
I have some advice for you. Put your sketch in the first post so it will be easy to see and list the amount of territories in the first post. (gives people an idea of how large/small the map is.)

@ Rodeon yes - at least you recognised the scene! I considered other scenarios from the game and this one seemed the most fitting. As you're also familiar with it I'd welcome any suggestions as to other FFVII map ideas. I thought about Gold Saucer - might be interesting but hard to draw! As you can see my artistic skills leave something to be desired.

@ Gillipig thanks for welcome. No not competent with those programs. Don't mind criticism as long as its constructive. Will try to repost map in first instance. Maybe the 'plates' complicate the map. Could replace the plates with conduits connecting the reactors through the cannon with killer neutrals. I'd not connect the reactors directly forcing the player to go through the killer neutrals. I think it could be an interesting map especially with fog of war with either adjacant or non-unlimted reinforcements - imagine advancing a big stack through 2 consecutive killer neutrals - advance too little and you've no hope of breaking into the target reactor. Too many you could overcommit leaving yourself vulnerable to another player.

Rather than access to the Weapon through occupation of the reactors could simply do a win rule based on number of reactors occupied equals powering up the system i.e. winning the game.

On a completely different tangent could lose the idea of 'playing' on weapon and develop the reactor idea as the whole map.

Just brainstorming here ?
